The Ambulatory Glucose Profile (AGP) is a globally renowned standard for visualizing Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) data in a way that makes it easy for both patients and healthcare providers to identify glucose patterns and trends. By focusing on the hourly glucose variability rather than HbA1c, the AGP becomes an actionable tool in the quest for better health outcomes.
All CGM data from a chosen time period are collected into a 24 hour standard day of the patient’s life. By hovering the graph, you can see how the glucose variability changes hour per hour. The orange line in the middle of the graph is the median glucose of that particular hour of the day. The dark blue area indicates the most common glucose measurements meanwhile the lighter blue area contains the least common ones. Lastly, the dotted grey line shows the lowest and highest glucose values for each hour during the selected time interval.
By looking at the steep of the orange line, you can spot what time of the day the patient’s glucose is increasing or decreasing. This gives valuable insights in the patient’s lifestyle. The height of the dark blue area gives a hint of how much the glucose varies over the day, which could suggest a change of medication or diet.
We think that the AGP view will make it even easier to monitor, manage and compare patients. At the same time, we hope that the AGP will make patients more aware of how their glucose correlates to their lifestyle choices.
